Meet Our Winter Intern, Kate!

Filed in Business Tools — November 18, 2020

We are so thrilled to welcome Kate Hollenbeck to the team as our 2020 Winter Intern! During her interview, Kate impressed us with her honesty (something we pride ourselves on at Waterloo Street), her professionalism, and her eagerness to learn all things marketingrelated.

With all things COVID still affecting our day-to-day, we haven’t had the opportunity to meet Kate in person but we are hoping we get to share our mutual love of Dianoia’s one day! In the meantime, we’ll be offering her as much value as possible as mentors.

Welcome to the team, Kate!

⁣Hi everyone! I’m Kate Hollenbeck 🙂 I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and came all the way to Pittsburgh for the business school at Duquesne and the city campus vibe! I am currently a junior studying marketing while minoring in legal studies.

I’m not exactly sure what type of marketing I’m specifically interested in, so this internship is perfect because I’ll be doing a variety of different things. I just started as an intern for Waterloo Street and couldn’t be more excited to dive in and learn. I’m so thrilled to have this opportunity and am really looking forward to learning more about how Hannah and Rachel run their awesome women-owned business!

A little bit more about me is the variety of organizations I’m involved in around Duquesne. One is that I’m a mentor and on the executive board for Strong Women, Strong Girls. Strong Women, Strong Girls is an organization where groups of college females are matched with a local elementary school and they meet once a week to hang out with the girls while introducing them to a variety of activities that encourages the empowerment of girls and women. I love the message that we convey to young girls and how we teach them at a young age how special and important they are.

I was really drawn to this internship at Waterloo Street because it is a women-owned business and specifically how Waterloo works with other women-owned businesses, as well. I think it’s really important for women to support other women and bring them up with them!

Along with Strong Women, Strong Girls, I am a member of Delta Sigma Pi. Delta Sigma Pi is a professional business fraternity for both men and women focused on developing principled business leaders for the future through a commitment to scholarship, service, and professionalism. I really enjoy being a part of this fraternity not only because I’m surrounded by other motivated individuals, but also because it brings another network of friends and mentors!

Outside of school, I really love to explore and find new places in Pittsburgh. I’m a huge foodie and love finding any new restaurants. I have a list on my phone so I don’t forget where I need to try. I even make sure to always ask my Uber drives where they recommend to eat! My favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh, so far, would have to be DiAnoia’s Eatery which is a cute Italian restaurant located in the strip! I also like going for nice, long walks or runs around North Side while taking in the beautiful sites of the city.

If you have any recommendations for yummy food or just want to talk please don’t hesitate to reach out to me; my email is kjhollen2000@gmail.com!
